Interesting research written up by Rhodes and Stelter from BCG indicates that companies that react with a tentative approach to a downturn typically overreact later on resulting in an expensive recovery when the economy rebounds. The key being to objectively take a structured response to the downturn to weather the storm and best prepare for the time when the economy turns around
