Sure this might have been true back in the day when IBM was the lead producer of computers and Michael Dell could barely spell mail order but things are way different now. Adopting the names PC and Mac to compare, the PC has an open architecture that you can customise as you like without proprietary barriers, the PC has a choice of operating systems and the margin on PCs is far lower than Macs.

Rather than the underdog Apple is close to operating like the Compaq of old – twice the price of Dell for the same performance.
